Description
INTRODUCTION Starting school in a small rural community can be experienced and interpreted in multiple ways and from multiple perspectives. For students and their parents, the transition to school may be viewed negatively or positively and it often represents a time of emotional ambiguity--the trials and tribulations, but also the tremendous anticipation and joy of a new beginning. For teachers it is a time filled with mixed emotions. There is a sense of unknown surrounding the incoming students--the unknown of where they come from, and what they bring with them. It is a time of excitement and nervous energy as teachers attempt to welcome their new students to school.
